The three-by-three inch squares of affixable paper made their national debut in 1980.
…But the little sticky-that-could took a long time coming.
(So you’re saying we’ve got a chance!)

It was a full 12 years earlier, in 1968, when Dr. Spencer Silver discovered a “unique, repositionable” while working in 3M’s labs.

As a result, Patent No. 3691140 for acrylate copolymer microspheres was issued in September 1972.
